Baldor SQ0034A20 Linear Forcer Type Stepper (Step) Motor, 2 Phase
I have several units so you may not receive the exact one shown in the photos but they are all in similar condition. It is an interesting type of 2 Phase stepper motor which is much less common than the typical type. The forcer is equivalent to the coils and poles of a traditional stepper motor and when energized they align with the respective poles of the platen. As such this motor can be driven with a typical stepper motor drive in full, half, or microstep modes. Simple 4 wire type with orange and green being one pole, red and white the other. This type of motor has both advantages and disadvantages. The linear nature of the motor eliminates the need to add ball screws and gears to achieve linear motion, together with their associated backlash. These motors are also quite fast when compared to typical rotary to linear drive systems. Their disadvantages include low force due to the lack of any gearing associated with the drive gears. Do not expect to get any more holding force than typically found holding the poles of a rotary step motor. The forcer moves smoothly and quickly across its 9 operating range (12 overall length). Mounting by three 10-32 tapped holes on the platen and three 6-32 threaded holes on the forcer, see photos. Applications include high speed motion for light loads or movement of loads on flat surfaces, engraving setups, 3-D printer head motion, small CNC systems.
